INDIANAPOLIS -- A man held his ex-girlfriend captive for more than three hours at her northeast-side Indianapolis home before fatally shooting her and wounding himself while a SWAT team was outside Friday morning, police said.

The man, Christopher Allen, also shot the woman's 15-year-old son in the feet early in the captive-taking before letting him go, police said.

INDIANAPOLIS -- A man who held his ex-girlfriend captive for more than three hours during a SWAT standoff before fatally shooting her and wounding himself was sentenced to 50 years in prison Friday.

Christopher Allen, 41, pleaded guilty to murder in the November 2006 killing of Angela D. Dees, 38, in a home in the 8200 block of Crook Drive in the Valleys subdivision, 6News' Derrik Thomas reported.

Co-defendant in Rethlake homicide pleads guilty to cocaine charge Reggie Balentine could receive up to 50 years in prison

A man who allegedly supplied cocaine to several Chicago men convicted in the Abby Rethlake slaying pleaded guilty to conspiracy to deal cocaine Friday...

The plea for Reggie Balentine was filed in Howard Superior Court 1 just prior to a jury trial in the case was to begin...

Judge William Menges took the plea under advisement and gave the attorneys until March 11 to file sentencing information...

Balentine was one of four men convicted in the April 5, 2008,double shooting that killed Abby Rethlake and injured her friend,Morgan Vetter...

In the Rethlake case, Balentine pleaded guilty a Class C felony assisting a criminal for helping repair the suspect car involved in the shooting...

He was sentenced earlierthis month to eight years in prison...

Officers of the Kokomo Police Department’s drug task force charged Balentine in January 2009 with A felony conspiracy to deal cocaine following an undercover investigation into cocaine trafficking in Kokomo..

Officers served a warrant on Balentine while he was incarcerated at the Howard County jail on the Rethlake case...

If approved, the plea could land Balentine up to 50 additional years in prison.

Five shot behind Peru bowling alley..

One reported in serious condition;police say on-going dispute maybe to blame..

Peru —

Five teens were shot after an apparent drive-by shooting late Friday night in the northern Indiana town of Peru...

Peru Police Chief Bill Raber tells Fox59 it happened outside Homer's Bowling Alley in the 400 block of West Canal Street..

One of the injured is in serious condition,two were hit in the leg and two are suffering from graze wounds...

Two people have been taken into custody in connection with the shooting...

One is a 15-year- old juvenile and the other has been identified as 22-year-old Danny Jake Case..

No official word on the motive behind the shooting,but police think it is possibly gang-related..

Kokomo man arrested in cold case

Three of our staff members have known Lt. Cathi Collins for many years..

Two of our staff members went to school with Lt.Collins son...

The other staff member back in the 1980's had been involved in Undercover work..

On one such case Investigator Collins was in charge of the investigation & was the Handler of the Undercover controlled agent...

During the course of that investigation Investigator Collins saved many teenage high school kids lives...

That investigation involved a dorm room sized refridgerator stolen from the Logansport Hospital lab by 3 teenagers..

In that refridge was Cancer Chemo Drugs..

The teens thought they had Drugs that would get you high & planned to sell the Drugs...

This could have spelled death or many brain-dead teenagers if that was to happen..

Investigator Collins kept the pressure up so high on the high school youth to get answers that was needed for a recovery that the teens couldnt sell the drugs without being caught..

So the teens decided to lay low & not touch the drugs or sell them until things had cooled down..

Because of Investigators Collins bull-dog attitude it bought her time to put into place an Undercover agent to track down the teens involved in the theft & secure the refridge with the drugs accounted for..

Investigator Collins directed the Undercover agent to the teenagers that she thought were involved in the Hospital theft..

It turned out Investigator Collins was correct & the refridge with the Cancer Chemo drugs were recovered 3 days later without incident..

Investigator Collins & our staff member also had a working relationship with the late Jack Adams of the Kokomo Police Department dating back to the 1980's..

Lt. Cathi Collins in our eyes is the true meaning of a Police Officer..

We know several cases where Investigator Collins went above & beyond the norm of carrying out her duties to solve a case..

Lt.Collins work with the Youth of Logansport Indiana is outstanding..

The Police Investigator's work with Special Victims is beyond anything thats ever been seen..

Just as in this case some of the Special Victims she came into contact with still live in Logansport..

Lt.Collins in return would have some type of contact with many Special Victims just by living in the same small Indiana town..

But when it was needed Lt.Collins always found a way to stay in contact with a Special Victim..

March 12, 1975: Barrett is charged with 2nd degree burglary,forced entry of Belmont rape on

Feb. 13, 1976: Barrett was convicted in Belmont case and sentenced to 60 years in prison..

Aug. 28, 1979: Jeffrey Womack,a Green Hills teeanager at the time of Trimble's death, is arrested on murder charges and released on a $25,000 bond..

Five of whom were teens at the time,and one of whom was an adult..

Jeffrey Womack,was one of the ones originally charged..

1994 - According to information obtained by Channel 4, in 1994,evidence from the Trimble case was sent to the Federal Bureau of Investigation..

There were at least two DNA samples from the scene,but there has never been any kind of match..

Aug. 11, 2002: Barrett was paroled..

March, 2004: FBI took another look at the case..

Blood, hair,clothing and other evidence was examined..

More than 100 blood samples existed,but not all of those were sent to the FBI..

Nov. 20, 2007: Jerome Sydney Barrett,60, was charged with murder in the slaying of Des Prez in 1975...

Nov. 27, 2007: A Nashville woman said she was able to escape an attack by Barrett on March 11, 1975...

The woman,who asked to be identified only as Judy,said her attack was a distant memory until she saw Barrett's face on the news again..

When police came to the apartments the night of the attack looking for a man fitting Judy's description,they found Barrett at the laundry room trying to break in..

They said he was armed with a loaded gun,knife and a change of clothes..

Shortly after,they were able to link him to the rape of a Belmont student...

Nov. 28, 2007: An anonymous woman said Barrett attacked her on her front porch on Feb. 23, 1975...

The date the woman described was two days before Marcia Trimble disappeared..

June 6, 2008: Jerome Barrett is officially indicted and charged in death of Marcia Trimble...

July 2, 2008: Jerome Barrett pleads not guilty to the murder of Marcia Trimble and is appointed a public defender...

Marcia Virginia Trimble,9,left her Green Hills home at 4009 Copeland Drive around 5:15 or 5:30 p.m. to deliver Girl Scout cookies to neighbor Marie Maxwell..

Her mother urged her to grab a coat,but Marcia didn't..

She never returned..

Her father searched the neighborhood..

At 7:15 p.m.,the family called the police..

Marcia's body is found in a garage,at 4007 Estes Road,just 80 yards from where she was last seen..

It was covered with an antique canvas shower curtain and toy swimming pool,which was turned upside down..

Police are baffled,saying they searched the garage previously..

Her body is flown to Memphis on Gov. Ray Blanton's Lear jet for autopsy by the state's medical examiner..

An autopsy showed she died from strangulation,and that there was semen in her vagina and on her clothes..

Her hymen was not broken.

Dr. Jerry Francisco,the state medical examiner,issues conflicting opinions before concluding that Marcia Trimble was strangled within hours after she left home on Feb. 25..

Metro police say they have narrowed the list of suspects in the Marcia Trimble murder case to a teen-aged boy who lives in her neighborhood..

1977:

An undercover police detective gets a job at a Green Hills restaurant to attempt to lure Jeffrey Womack,an 18-year-old cook,into talking about his suspected role in the Marcia Trimble case..

The effort fails...

Aug. 28,1979:

Jeffrey Womack is arrested and charged with Trimble's death..

He was 15 when she disappeared, and lived with his family down the street from the Trimble home...

Officers said the arrest resulted from an FBI crime lab analysis,which showed that paint spots on the shower curtain draped over the child's body matched paint samples taken from a home that Womack frequented in 1975..

He was charged with the crime even after passing repeated polygraph tests..

Dec. 6:

Juvenile Court Judge Richard Jenkins orders that Womack be transferred to Criminal Court for prosecution as an adult...

April 24, 1980:

District Attorney Tom Shriver announces that he will not present the case against Womack to the Davidson County grand jury because of "lack of evidence."

August 1980:

All charges against Womack are dropped...

July 1981:

Police also request that the dark-haired girl who was seen with Marcia shortly before she vanished to please come forward..

January 1996:

Police say they believe Marcia Trimble was killed when a sexual assault involving more than two young males in the girl's neighborhood "got out of hand."..

DNA tests point to ejaculation by "probably three,maybe four" males,says Lt. Jacobs..

He says she was probably strangled when the boys were trying to control her panic..

Police say they have found no one to match the DNA evidence..

May 1996:

Two different men one a convicted killer,confess to Marcia's killing..

Sex Offender Convicted of Murdering Girl Scout in 1975

Trimble verdict closes a painful chapter in Nashville history..

A Nashville jury convicted Jerome Barrett of 2 counts of second-degree murder in the 1975 strangulation death of Girl Scout Marcia Trimble.

The 9-year-old disappeared while delivering Girl Scout cookies in her upscale Nashville neighborhood..

When Jerome Barrett went to Copeland Drive,He didn't go there for the 9-year-old Girl Scout,who was delivering cookies on a chilly night while her mother cooked dinner...

He was looking for another woman,a woman who screamed,fought off his advances and got away a few days before,despite the knife he held at her throat..

Whether he thought the Marcia Trimble,tall for her age,was the woman or he saw an opportunity,it was Marcia whom Barrett strangled on Feb. 25, 1975..

HE left his DNA there on her shirt..

The 62-year-old Barrett became a suspect in the case 1 1/2 years ago through DNA testing...

Samples from Trimble had been preserved throughout the years,and had deteriorated...

But,with more modern DNA testing Jerome Sydney Barrett's DNA was found on Marcia Trimble's blouse..

He is currently serving a life sentence for the 1975 rape and murder of a Vanderbilt University coed..

He faces 44 years in prison on each count in this case...

The case is regarded as the most notorious in Nashville history because of the circumstances of the girl's death and the length of the investigation..

INDIANAPOLIS -- A man who claimed to have found the body of an 18-year-old Indianapolis woman 17 years ago has been linked by DNA evidence to her killing,authorities said..

David Ashworth,46, was arrested Monday in Lakeland, Fla.,in connection with the 1989 strangling and rape of Lisa Joan Summers..

Ashworth has been charged with murder and is awaiting extradition to Indiana..

Police said Summers disappeared in June 1989 after finishing her shift at a Wendy's restaurant at 38th Street and Lafayette Road on Indianapolis' west side..

Four days later, Ashworth and another man told authorities he had found her body near 38th Street and Interstate 465, police said..

Authorities said someone had dragged Summers into a field and then raped and strangled her..

DNA found on Summers' clothing and saliva on a cigarette butt found near her body had been saved and was tested this year,along with a DNA sample taken from Ashworth in 1992.

Investigators said that test linked Ashworth to the crime..Ashworth's wife told police that he was home at the time of the killing,but she later recanted...

INDIANAPOLIS -- A man who claimed to have found the body of an18-year-old Indianapolis woman nearly 19 years ago has been convicted of murdering her...

A jury late Wednesday afternoon found David Ashworth, 47, guilty of murder in the 1989 death of Lisa Joan Summers..

Police said Ashworth  was arrested in September 2006 in Lakeland, Fla.,after investigators determined DNA evidence linked him to Summers' strangling and rape...

Police said Summers disappeared in June 1989 after finishing her shift at a Wendy's restaurant at 38th Street and Lafayette Road on Indianapolis' west side..

Four days later, Ashworth told authorities hehad found her body near 38th Street and Interstate 465, police said..

DNA found on Summers' clothing and saliva on a cigarette butt found near her body had been saved and were tested in 2006, along with a DNA sample taken from Ashworth in 1992..

Investigators said that test linked Ashworth to the crime..

Ashworth's defense attorney T.R. Fox argued that Ashworth had cut his leg on a bike where Summers' body was found, and that Ashworth bled on Summers' clothing..

"When David tripped and fell on the bike and cut his leg, that would give rise to the blood being there,"

Fox told 6-News' Derrik Thomas before the verdict was announced..

A jury deliberated for about 50 minutes before reaching the verdict. A three-day trial preceded deliberations...

INDIANAPOLIS -- A man serving sentences for rapes in other states has been charged in the 1985 rape and slaying of a pregnant 19-year-old woman in Indianapolis, police said Saturday..

Indianapolis police said DNA evidence links Jimmy Atteberry,who has been on a work-release program in Missouri,to the death of Lisa Lightfoot..

Atteberry, 48, who police described as a transient from Indianapolis who also goes by the name of Jerry Darnell,was being held Saturday in St. Louis, Mo... He was awaiting extradition to Indiana,police said..

Lightfoot's body was found on Sept. 22, 1985,on an embankment near railroad tracks just east of a business at 927 Pennsylvania St., police said.. She was reported missing a day earlier..

Police said evidence collected in the initial investigation was recently checked against a DNA database.. The evidence matched Atteberry's DNA, which was in the database, police said...

Lightfoot's brother, Joel Lightfoot,told 6-News' Cheryl Jackson that an investigation showed his sister was attacked by someone as she returned to her car from a convenience store...

She was raped, stabbed in the chest and stomach, and beaten,Joel Lightfoot said..

An autopsy showed that Lisa Lightfoot was pregnant when she was killed,according to police.

Police considered Atteberry a person of interest in the initial investigation of Lisa Lightfoot's death, Jackson reported...

He had lived in the same apartment complex as Lightfoot, police said..

At the time that police learned that DNA evidence linked Atteberry to the 1985 slaying,he was on a work-release program in connection with rapes in Illinois and Missouri, police said..

Victim's Family Relieved By Arrest

Lisa Lightfoot's brother said he was pleased when police told him about Atteberry's arrest in the case..

"That's all I needed to hear," Joel Lightfoot said.His father died a few years ago, but his mother is alive..

He said that when he told her about Atteberry's arrest, she cried with relief..

Joel Lightfoot said he was the first to find his sister's body in September 1985..

He and his parents were searching near a bridge after her driver's license was found underneath it...

He said he found a trail of papers that had come from her purse along some railroad tracks that went under the bridge...

"All the papers stopped, and then at that point I started lookingaround..

I (saw) an automobile down the side of the railroad embankment,went down there, and there she lay," Joel Lightfoot said.

Jimmy Atteberry was arrested in 2007 in Missouri after DNA linked him to the crime..

Officials said Atteberry lived in the same apartment building as Lisa Lightfoot 19 whose body was found a day after she was reported missing..

Police called Atteberry a person of interest in 1985..He had already been convicted of rapes in Missouri and Illinois..

Atteberry is scheduled to be sentenced on July 2..

Shortly after the arrest, Lisa Lightfoot's brother told 6-News he was relieved..

INDIANAPOLIS -- Nearly 23 years after an Indianapolis woman was raped,stabbed and strangled, the man convicted of her murder was sentenced tomore than 100 years in prison...

Lisa Lightfoot was 19 years old in 1985 when her body was found along the railroad tracks near 927 S. Pennsylvania St..

Last year, Jimmy Atteberry, 49, was linked to the crime using DNA evidence resubmitted by detectives...Wednesday, Atteberry was sentenced to 110 years in prison...

Lightfoot's family told 6-News' Derrik Thomas they are satisfied with the punishment..

"There's no chance of anyone being hurt by him again..

I'm definitely happy about that," said Lightfoot's high school boyfriend, Adam Albertson...

"Twenty-two years is a long time. I'm glad it's finally over with."

The judge gave Atteberry the chance to apologize at Wednesday's hearing, but he declined. He said he would appeal the sentence.
